TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR BUSINESS.

My name is Chantilly Post and I am a Journalism graduate who has written for numerous publications. I’ve always enjoyed interviewing creatives and showcasing someone’s talent. I felt I wasn’t able to interview as many people I wanted to so I created my own publication, SOMWABA, where I can interview and feature people I believe are creating cool sounds, interesting thoughts and eliciting all the feels.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

I’ve always wanted to work for myself. I’ve worked the office 9-5 job before and it wasn’t for me. SOMWABA is my own business that I’m lucky to also call my passion and when you’re lucky enough to do your passion as your job, you take it.

WHAT WAS ONE HIGH POINT FOR YOU?

Finally launching my new website that’s self-owned and having artists feel so grateful to be featured, because I am always equally as grateful to get the opportunity to converse with every artist.

WAS THERE EVER A SITUATION WHERE YOU WANTED TO GIVE UP? AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THAT (YOUR A-HA MOMENT)?:

There have been a few moments where I wanted to give up and it resulted around me feeling as if I wasn’t moving - as if I was running in circles. My a-ha moment was realizing that there will always be hurdles and moments where you may feel like you’re not moving but that’s natural and sometimes you need to zoom out of your situation to realize that you are, in fact, moving forward and every small step counts.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING A B.A.B.E.?

Being a B.A.B.E. is the most empowering feeling, especially being a Black B.A.B.E. I grew up with a mother who was also a B.A.B.E. and if I can inspire other women and girls with my story and the stories of artists I feature on my blog, I feel accomplished.

TELL ME 3 FUN FACTS ABOUT YOU.

  1. I was born in Jamaica.

  2. I made the word SOMWABA up when I was in grade six and told myself that when I get older it will be the name of my company.

  3.  I make the best banana pancakes.

WHAT’S ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE US?

The biggest piece of advice is something that I’ve personally realized: Don’t let someone not seeing your vision distract you from your vision. Just because someone may not understand your goals, visions or plans doesn’t mean it’s not doable, real or attainable. Follow your instincts and heart and you can do and make anything yours.
