I’m Alora co-founder of SΛM & LΛNCE. SAM & LANCE takes the guesswork out of ethical shopping. We have a marketplace of jewelry, skincare, and home goods made by women around the world.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
My co-founder (and sister!) and I look to make conscious and sustainable decisions whenever we purchased something new but all the research and time and takes to make sure you are getting a product that is in fact ethically made was getting out of hand. We wanted a simpler way to support businesses that shared our morals and values.
WHAT WAS ONE HIGH POINT FOR YOU?
Getting our first order from a stranger! We were so lucky to have supportive friends and family to place the first few orders on our site and support us but it was so exciting seeing a stranger’s name it made it all seem real!
WAS THERE EVER A SITUATION WHERE YOU WANTED TO GIVE UP? AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THAT (YOUR A-HA MOMENT)?:
It has gotten overwhelming and stressful at times and we were not sure if we could handle it but we are lucky to have each other and supportive families to pick ourselves up and keep powering through.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING A B.A.B.E.?
Having support from a virtual community and always knowing that you’re going to get a respectful and positive response to anything that’s posted.

I did my MBA in Paris and lived there for a year but still cannot speak french! 🤦♀️
I have traveled to 73 countries.
I know how to weld.

Always stick to your values. Figure out what matters most to you and your morality and stand by those rules.
